Are you sure your beneficiaries are accurate on your life insurance?

Are your life insurance beneficiary designations set up correctly? Take a look. Recently, I had my fourth child and called our life insurance agent. I wanted to make sure our new baby was added as a beneficiary. My plan was set up correctly. I checked the box to include “any and all children” of the insured. My wife’s plan, however, was not set up correctly. Her plan listed beneficiaries by name. Only 3 of my 4 kids get death benefit proceeds from my wife’s life insurance policy. Our fourth child gets nothing. My policy, on the other hand, divides the proceeds evenly among all children. They don’t have to be named specifically. Call your insurance agent and make sure you either request that “all children of the insured” option is taken or specifically list anyone you want to receive death benefit proceeds. This isn’t the kind of thing that you would want to discover after a loss occurs.
